The City of Calgary has coordinated a pop-up vegetable market in Auburn Bay (produce grown in greenhouses near Lethbridge), and each Saturday for the rest of the Summer, Broxburn Farms, will be set up at the Prince of Peace School parking lot.
When: Saturday’s from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where: Auburn Bay (Prince of Peace School 43 Auburn Meadows Blvd SE Calgary)
This initiative is part of The City of Calgary’s The Farm Stand program, which brings more locally grown food into more Calgary communities while providing support to our local farmers. The Farm Stand Program supports eight incredible local farms and vendors. Improving access to healthy food options is an important part of Calgary Eats!, our Food Action Plan. At Broxburn Vegetables, we pride ourselves in growing superior quality field and greenhouse fruits and vegetables. We presently operate a 3-acre greenhouse that is heated by two natural gas boilers. In the greenhouse we grow crops the biological way; meaning that we introduce natural predators instead of spraying chemical pesticides to kill the pests. The most common pests found on peppers are aphids. The predators are purchased from around the world and introduced into the greenhouse on a weekly basis.
